Social Studies: Next, we will be moving on to Lesson 10, Tensions Grow Between Great Britain and the Colonies. The Essential Question for this lesson is: What British actions angered the colonists in the 1700s?
Overview: Analyze the causes and effects of events that caused tension to grow between the colonies and Great Britain by using an “Unrest-O-Meter.”
Objectives
Social Studies
- Make connections between a class experience and the historical events in the colonies after the French and Indian War.
- Identify how key events created tensions between the colonists and Great Britain between 1754 and 1774.
- Analyze the character traits of King George III and predict how a different kind of king might have changed the history of the British colonies.
Language Arts
- Role-play an adult giving a student an order. This represents the King giving orders to the colonies. (speaking and listening)
- Analyze the causes and effects of events between the colonies and Great Britain. (reading)
Religion: Students will identify the elements of the Liturgy of the Word, an integral part of the Mass. Students will also learn about the lives of Saint Ignatius of Loyola and Saint Jerome.
Students will complete a study guide to prepare for a quiz on Chapter 17, The Liturgy of the Word, next Thursday (3/14).
English/Language Arts: Hello HRS families! Next week, students are reading “Part Six: August” of Wonder. There will be a new double-entry journal on Google Classroom. We will be doing a lot of reading in class and at home as we get towards the end of the book. I introduced Socratic Seminars to 5th graders a few weeks ago, and it’s been so inspiring to see them engage in collaborative discussions with each other. In these, students bring their understanding of the book and their life experiences to discuss valuable themes and motifs from Wonder. I love to see all of your kids truly engage with literature. We’ll also have a new set of spelling words, which I will take from the novel instead of the blue vocab book. This vocab acquisition will improve your child’s experience reading Wonder. Have a great weekend!
Science: Students will use a bone chart to identify the species of small animals that barn owls prey upon. Students will mount bones from the owl pellets on paper to create a display poster.
Have a great weekend!
