Mrs. Herrin

Next week we are continuing our work with fractions, decimals, and percents.  After working with these conversions, we will work with finding the percent of a number.  I have been really impressed by the students increased focus and quicker transitions.  It has allowed them to have more time in class to start their homework!

Religion: Students begin Chapter 17, Liturgy of the Word. Students will learn about the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls and why they are important.

Students will also read about the life of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. Reading about the adventures of the Saints taught Ignatius that his goals of fame and glory were empty. Instead he was moved by God’s message in the bible and decided to follow Jesus’ teachings.

Social Studies: This week students took the Chapter 7, Comparing the Colonies test on 2/4. The Farewell Letter was due on 2/4. We moved on to Chapter 8, Facing Slavery. We will learn about the West African perspective and experience of facing slavery during the colonial period. The test will be on 2/25. The study guide will be given out on 2/13.

Science: Students begin lesson 3 in Ecology: How energy moves through an ecosystem. Students will discover what food chains, food webs and energy pyramids show about energy flow in an ecosystem. To help students understand these concepts, they will create a food web and energy pyramid for an Antarctic ecosystem.

Language Arts: https://6b.holyrosaryws.org/5th-la/. Next week we will also continue to write our autobiography essays while practicing proper MLA format and use of quotations.
