Next week, we will start the week with the first test from the sixth grade book: rates and ratios. We will spend two days reviewing before the test. We will then move right into our second chapter where we will work with fractions, decimals, and percents. In this chapter, the kids will learn a lot of cool tricks for converting among F, D, and %. They will also work with finding percents of numbers.
Science: Students are learning about the tropical rainforest ecosystem. Students will be able to describe the niche of several creatures that live in the rainforest including squirrel monkeys, kinkajous and ocelots. Students will discuss how different populations of organisms make up the rainforest community.
Religion: Students begin Chapter 16, Gathered as One. Students will learn how we are united in the Mass. Students will also discuss the Real Presence: a phrase used to describe the teaching that Jesus is really and truly with us in the Eucharist-Body, Blood, soul and divinity.
Social Studies: Students will present their billboard presentations tomorrow. The test for Chapter 7 is on Tuesday, 2/4. We will use the classes we have next week to review for this test.
Language Arts: Due to Catholic Schools Week events next week, Lesson 9 Spelling Quiz will be next Thursday, January 30th, on tricky compound words involving a variation of single word, hyphens, or separate words. Words can be found on my website: https://6b.holyrosaryws.org/5th-la/. We will be narrowing down our school-wide Spelling Bee representatives by this Friday! The students have been focused on being respectful and kind during this fierce competition.
Reading: We are enjoying Number the Stars. Students should continue to read the assigned chapters at home: Read to the end of Ch. 7 before class on Monday.
Spanish: Please check the 5th grade Spanish page on the Holy Rosary website for information about upcoming assignments and tests. https://spanish.holyrosaryws.org/5th-grade/
Have a great weekend!
