Chapter 7 Expressions and Patterns

We are now in the Volume #2 of our math curriculum. The students have been instructed to take Volume #1 home and put it in a very safe place. They can rework problems and reread lessons for the summer math challenge! Students have written the rules for the Order of Operations on a notecard. I would like them to memorize these rules.

Monday (3/27) – Ch. 7 Lesson 3, Write Numerical Expressions

Tuesday (3/28) – Check My Progress p. 505

Wednesday (3/29) – Check My Progress Quiz lessons 2 & 3.

Thursday (3/30) – Ch. 7 Lesson 6, Patterns

Friday (3/31) – Review & Aleks Practice

Science: Students will discuss the work of aerospace engineers. They will brainstorm how the general features of the planets in our solar system impact the design of spacecraft. Next, they will draw and label a fictional spacecraft designed to explore a specific planet in our solar system. Students will share how the features of their fictional spacecraft match its destination and mission goals.

Social Studies: Next week we will be continuing to learn about Ch.10 Growing Tensions Between the Colonies and Great Britain. On Monday we will be going over the Ch.10 Reading Notes in class. Students will have the chance to check their answers as well as add information to their answers.  In small groups, we will create  “Act-it-Out’s” which go with the cartoons that represent the major events that led up to the Revolutionary War. We will have our “Act-it-Out” presentations on 3/31. The Ch. 10 test will be on Monday 4/3. The study guide will be on Google Classroom one week before the test.

English/Language Arts: Hello HRS families. By the time we reach Spring break, students should be done with the book. Next week, we will begin planning a practice essay, which we’ll write with this theme: Family Will Always be There to Support Us. I will show kids how to use an essay planner to organize a five paragraph essay, and then how to use their double-entries to write body paragraphs. We will also get a new set of spelling words, and students can expect reading at home. Have a nice weekend.

Religion: Students are learning why the Liturgy of the Word is important. The Liturgy of the Word is the first of the two main parts of the Mass. In readings from the Old and New Testaments, God speaks to the heart of each person. Jesus is truly present in the word as it is proclaimed and preached in the liturgy. Students will take a quiz on Chapter 17, The Liturgy of the Word, next Thursday (3/30).

Have a great weekend!
