Social Studies: Next week we will continue to work on Ch. 10 Growing Tensions Between the Colonies and Britain. Students are learning about 6 events and they are working in pairs to complete the reading notes on Google Classroom. Students are using a Parent (Britain)/Child (Colonies) metaphor to understand these complicated events.
Science: Students begin a unit in the Engineering is Elementary program titled: Aerospace Engineering: Designing Parachutes.
This unit introduces the field of aerospace engineering by guiding students to explore how aerospace engineers design and test technologies to be used in non-Earth environments. Hands-on activities, discussions, and readings are used to introduce students to the Engineering Design Process, the work of engineers.
English/Language Arts: Hello, and happy weekend to you all. Next week, we will reach the end of “Jack.” I will put the due date for the double-entry journal on the matrix. I’ve been seeing a ton of growth in students’ writing in these journals. The goal is for students to be able to identify passages that reveal something important: a motif, a theme, character traits, conflict, etc… and then analyze in their commentary. As we get to the end of the book, we will begin to prepare for the final essay on the book’s theme. The double-entries will be a critical tool for students when writing their essays. We will write one as a class before students begin planning. Student’s can also expect new spelling words next week. I hope you’ve been enjoying the sunshine!
Religion: Students will learn about the life of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. Reading about the adventures of the Saints taught Ignatius that his goals of fame and glory were empty. Instead, he was moved by God’s message in the bible and decided to follow Jesus’ teachings.
Students will conduct an examination of conscience to prepare for the Rite of Reconciliation next Wednesday.
Have a good weekend!
