Social Studies: Next week we will begin Chapter 10, Tensions Grow Between the Colonies and Great Britain. In this chapter students will learn about six events that led up to the Revolutionary War.

Social Studies

  • Make connections between a class experience and the historical events in the colonies after the French and Indian War.
  • Identify how key events created tensions between the colonists and Great Britain between 1754 and 1774.
  • Analyze the character traits of King George III and predict how a different kind of king might have changed the history of the British colonies.

Language Arts

  • Role-play metaphors of a parent/child relationship which represents Great Britain and the Colonies.(speaking and listening)
  • Analyze the causes and effects of events between the colonies and Great Britain. (reading)

Science: Students will investigate the niche of the barn owl by dissecting owl pellets. Students will use a bone chart to identify the species of small animals that barn owls prey upon.

English/Language Arts: Hello HRS families! Next week students are reading the “Jack” section of Wonder. There’s a new double-entry journal on Google Classroom. We will be doing a lot of reading in class and at home as we get towards the end of the book. I introduced Socratic Seminars to 5th graders a few weeks ago, and it’s been so inspiring to see them engage in collaborative discussions with their peers. In these seminars, students bring their understanding of the book and their life experiences to discuss valuable themes and motifs from Wonder. I love to see all of your kids really engage with literature. We’ll also have a spelling test next week. Have a great weekend!

Religion: Students begin Chapter 17, Liturgy of the Word. Students will learn how the elements of the Liturgy of the Word are an integral part of the Mass. Students will discuss how the Bible is the written word of God. We must read, reflect on, and use it in our prayers.

Have a great weekend!
