Mrs. Heuer

Next week we will finish out our 5th chapter by working with all four quadrants on the coordinate plane.  I am encouraging the students to continue reading their HW problems carefully and do their best work.  The students can also use the examples in their book as a resource because it shows clearly solved example problems.  We will take our chapter test after two review days.

Religion: Students will about some of the world’s major faiths in order to understand the importance of faith in people’s lives and to help them understand and appreciate their own faith. They will also learn about the work Catholic missionaries do among people of other religious traditions.

Social Studies: Today we began Chapter 10, Growing Tensions Between the Colonies and Britain. In this chapter students will compare the parent/child relationship to the relationship between the English Colonies and Great Britain during the 1750’s – 1760’s. We will learn about 6 events that led up to the Revolutionary War. Please see homework page for daily homework. The test for this chapter will be on March 19th.  A study guide will be on Google Classroom one week before the test.

Language Arts: Our Lesson 12 Spelling Quiz will be Friday March 6th. We will be taking a practice quiz, Monday March 2nd so students will have an idea of which words they need to review throughout the week to be prepared for Friday’s quiz. Words can be found on my website: https://6b.holyrosaryws.org/5th-la/. They will also have Lesson 12 Spelling Word Writing Prompt Due March 5th as a homework assignment.

Science: Students will examine the relationship between photosynthesis and respiration to understand how carbon dioxide and oxygen are cycled through an ecosystem. Students will also learn how living things use nitrogen and how it is cycled through the earth.

Students will take a quiz on lessons 3 & 4 in their texts next Tuesday. They have completed two study guides to help them prepare.

Reading: We will be jumping back into our Journeys text along with practicing strategies for better understanding informational text. Students are sometimes surprised when they need to re-read informational text in order to fully process the material. We’ll work on using headings, sub-headings, graphics and captions to grasp challenging informational text.

Have a great weekend!
